The first days at Ibiza
Monday started with icebreaker activities at the school IES Algarb. The students made paper planes, wrote down two questions and threw them to each other.
The students presented teir pre-task on the topic water management at Nesodden, before they started working in international groups on the main task for the week. We finished the school day with an International party.
Tuesday
We started the day with a lecture on water by Vicente Medina from Barcelona University. The students learned about the situation at Ibiza, where the water resources are limited due to little rain, evaporation and groundwater polluted by sea water. Tourism has a large impact on the water resources at the island. There are desalination plants for removing salt from sea water, but they pollute in several ways: The desalination plants are operated on petroleum, and too much salt goes back into the Mediterranean sea. Some of the students went to "La Casita Verde", and others to "Can Planetes + Can Marines"
La Casita Verde is an ecology centre in the mountains run by Chris Dews. They practice and teach sustainable living. We learned about how to save water and utilize the scarce water resources in the area. We also heard about alternative energy, re-cycling and up-cycling waste.
